Education for the "Net" Generation
This generation is characterized by their immersion into digital media, and has been affectionately labeled them the “Net Generation.” Today’s children are connected to the digital world through the Internet, blogs, cell phones, text messaging and video games. Instead of tuning in to MTV for the latest songs, today’s children utilize online searches and download music to their iPods.
The fundamental advancement of data delivery has changed the ways children today view and absorb information. For example, previous generations of children experienced the media through a one sided, passive approach. This experience is epitomized by television –- a medium that provides the same information in the same manner to all viewers. But in the 21st-century world, this new generation is demanding new modes of communication that are both interactive and personalized. These digital-savvy “N-Geners” do not just observe; they participate. Today's students inquire, discuss, argue, play, critique, investigate, ridicule, seek, and inform. Because teens have the tools to question and challenge information, they are becoming a generation of true critical thinkers. At N-GENioUS, we recognize the need to acquire information differently and possess the necessary to tools and knowledge to do so effectively.
